Traditional craft village tourism festival held in Hanoi
Update:
The 2013 traditional craft village tourism festival in Hanoi and Red River Delta area opened at the Palace of Sports Apparel Horse in Hanoi on October 8.

Present among guests were Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Pham Quang Nghi and leaders of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

At the opening ceremony, participants observed one minute's silence in tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap's passing.

Representatives of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism received Asian Record's certificates for three specialties of the capital: Pho (noodle soup served with beef and chicken), Bun cha (rice noodles served with grilled pork), and Bun thang (rice noodle soup served with chicken, fried egg strands, lean meat pie strands and mushroom).

The Vietnam Tourism Association launched an autumn-winter tourism campaign and gave a special art performance in praise of Hanoi's thousand-year-old civilization.

Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee, said that the festival is part of activities in celebration of the 2013 National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta-Haiphong and the 59th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day.

The festival has 300 stalls put up by 139 units representing 37 out of 52 groups of craft industry from 19 cities and provinces, the Vietnam Craft Village Association, and the Vietnam Tourism Association.

The space is divided into five areas: craft village exhibition, travel agencies, airlines, food, folk games, and entertainment.

The festival also includes a city tour programme as a special tourism product of Hanoi.

It will last through to October 12.
